Hello, my name is Kiah, and I was in charge of making the short film. As well as this I was involved in the initial planning/ research and helped create the base for the sculpture.

For the initial research, I explored external articles and artists for inspiration. The main article that inspired me was Gariff, D. (2020) ‘The Presence of Absence’, National Gallery of Art. This article discusses the concept of absences as ‘ability to render a room without people or narrative action and yet somehow convey the sense of their being in the space—a lingering life force, as if someone has just departed or is about to arrive’. (Gariff, 2020) This inspired the imagery and the concepts within the short film.

My main effort in this project was the short film. I began discussing potential shot ideas which eventually was drawn and used to create a written storyboard. I then, alongside Amirah and Kyle, started filming and gathering simple shots for the film following the initial ideas. It was also my idea to include experimental shots. I created the continuous shot of ink in water to visualise oil spills and damage to the environment.

However, after getting the spoken word element I decided to adjust the short film so that the images at certain times fitted with the words in order to enhance the message. I edited the film as well, and used iMovie to do so.
